Landing rates

Have seen a few flight logS with positive landing rate numbers  ???

My last flight shows as 122  :)

But why does it show as a positive number?

Graham Woodley (1054)

Sometimes I notice a landing rate doesn't have a minus sign, like my last was 94.
Well it was a bit lumpy into LCY with a good handful of power in the flare and a bit of a float.
I wonder if it is reading a bit of up just before td?

Just noticed Sean post the same question at the same time as me!  ;D

;D  Great minds think alike  ;D

This is because we use an FSUIPC offset that measures vertical speed in fpm but the variable only updates when the aircraft is in the air. So id assume that a flare where you pitch up slightly too much and gain a positive vertical speed then hit the runway would be the cause.

Have a look here on page 19 at offset 030C

QuoteVertical speed, copy of offset 02C8 whilst airborne, not updated whilst the ?on ground? flag (0366) is set. Can be used to check hardness of touchdown (but watch out for bounces which may change this).

Hmm ok, thanks for your reply Chris.
I'll have to keep a closer eye on First Officer Prune's technique. (It wasn't me, of course  :P )

(Dead link, btw.)

Thanks Chris  :)

I'm not blaming anyone but the captain  ;)

Chris Hulme (1003)

Updated the link  ;)

Graham Woodley (1054)

Thanks Chris, that's perfectly clear now  :o ;D

But seriously, reading that, we all take FSUIPC for granted, but it's amazing what it does and we'd be stuffed without it.
After xx years of using it for free, I think I'm going to pay for the registered version and give Pete some support.

We do indeed, Peter Dowson is a very clever man and without FSUIPC many (if not most) external addons wouldn't work! Inlucing things like Sqawkbox, FSINN, ACARS Programs etc etc
