JS41 and Dash8 Q400 flight time planning

My last two flights before today, were in the red for time violation. I, being the conscientious pilot that I am... ;D wanted to figure out why. I use FS2Crew with both of these fine aircraft, and believe that these may be part of the problem. Of course good piloting can solve many problems, but this may help in general if you use FS2Crew. It's all a matter of timing.

With the aircraft is loaded and FS2Crew started the internal clock starts. If you've set your FSX clock properly the time is counting down for your departure. But you still have to load your plan, load and balance fuel, run checklists, etc...Wait a minute...not so fast. The AACars clock started when you have engines running (JS41) or Conditioners positioned to start (Q400). If you are following the time in FS2Crew you may have quite a bit of time left before you taxi and take off. Solution, keep you eyes on the clock, and fast forward as necessary to keep your schedule on.  This is what I just did with a JS41 flight from Jersey to London City and land spot on time 1/1.

Now IF I can just follow my own advice. Hope this help you out. Keep 'em in the green to keep management pleased with you flight performance.  :) :)

Well observed Gerald! I use FS2crew also when I'm flying online (sometimes confusing who is talking  :o ) and I also need to fast-forward the pre-flight at times to be able to stick with the schedule(s).

cheers,
Ron

The times in the schedules are block times, from engine start to shutdown.
If you know the preflight times of FS2Crew, can you not set the time to departure minus this?

I know at the airline I work for, we are allocated an hour preflight. So we report an hour before scheduled departure time. Within this hour the pilots have to print off flightplans, we brief. Then walk out to the aircraft via security get onboard do all our pre flight checks and then get all the passengers on! Its tight and requires very good time management! We aim to shut the aircraft front door at -3 mins to ensure an on time departure!

Chris, that's just what I try to do. Trying to keep to the schedule is probably one of the most challenging aspects of flights here. It's that added touch of realism that makes it no much fun.

I know our schedules are slightly hard to keep to at times, and this has been discussed on here previously! It doesnt help when they change all the STARS for EGLC and make them even longer  >:(
But keeps it all fun anyway!

I'm an FS2Crew user myself, and I fast forward through the pre-flight events because I get all my flight planning done before loading the sim (this is as per real life, flight plans would be generated for you by a flight dispatch team). The PF events time of FS2Crew is very generous on the turboprops, a crew can do all the checks and get them ready for engine start in well under 30 minutes.

Keeping with company schedules can be very challenging (of course fun to do) ... especially since ATC can screw them up pretty much, which can happen quite often, depending on traffic. On the other hand, flying in to LCY, they have given me some shorter approaches ...
