I think I know the harsh answer forthcoming, but on my first flight today (EGLC - EDDK) I forgot to start ACARS. No problem, I shall simply fly back - which I did (EDDK - EGLC). For some reason it did not log?  I am afraid it was pilot error.   :( So, both flights were flown on VATSIM.  Is there any chance of logging these into the logbook?

Thank you!

Jim

What were the flight numbers? I should be able to pull them out from vataware and add them :)

Jim Parish (1045)

Hi Chris -

ICX 694 and 605.  I am taking off again today to make sure I know how to use the ACARS!   ;)

Thanks!

Oops- I meant 604 and 605.  Always proof.

Chris Liu (1001)

All sorted Jim :) We'd usually have them added within a few hours but both me and Chris have been away from our homes this weekend (I've been walking in the Peak District and Chris has been visiting family). Hopefully I'll get some Düsseldorf scheduling done this week!

Oh and in case you didn't know, ICX592 you flew on the 29th logged just fine through ACARS, very nicely flown it was too :) (for those of you that are wondering, the management team do check logged flights from time to time)!

Oh blimey best resign now then before you catch up with my very poor attempts at flying the Q400 :(

Chris Liu (1001)

 I'm sure you're doing just fine Steve (your last flight to Bordeaux had a nice landing and all your routing has been good :))!

Generally I am very impressed with the standard of flying from Intercity pilots, we are waaay above the average; especially considering we operate some of the most complex and challenging aircraft available, when most sim pilots can't handle anything beyond the NGX norm. Consider yourself part of an elite band of pilots, Steve! :D

I'm always looking at flightdeck screenshots posted by Q400 owners to VATSIM and AVSIM etc, and I'm forever spotting procedural faults such as cruising with the props at NTOP, not activating fuel pumps for takeoff and landing, not dealing with icing conditions etc (naturally, they are free to fly how they wish and they're not hurting anybody, but they're not being realistic either which seems to defeat the point of having a high fidelity addon).

Of course, having said all that, we still all screw up from time to time (myself included), but at least our screw ups are recoverable

Jim Parish (1045)

Thank you kindly Chris!  And it is rather nice to know you guys are occasionally looking over from the jumpseat.   :P Makes me a little more determined to do as good a job as possible - which at times can be kind of impossible!

By the way, where is the Peak District?  Is this a hiking/camping area?

Chris Liu (1001)

Yes, I went walking there before the winter sets in. It's a national park in the English Midlands, lots of hills, fields, reservoirs, dales, gorges, passes, hills etc - think of Jane Austen and English period dramas and you'll get the idea! It lies between Sheffield (EGSY), Manchester (EGCC) and Derby/Nottingham (EGNX).

OK, my envious nature is showing!  What beautiful country - nothing looks like that around these here parts (Texas) - forgive the lapse into a drawl.

We have driven across a good deal of England (up to Scotland and back via the not so traveled roads), but knew nothing of this region.  Thanks for sharing!
