Title: Special Charter Flights
Post by: Sean Donno on Mar 23, 2014 19:20
Just a thought, but had an idea (which is rare for me, so thought I'd better post it quick!).

Would it be possible to be able to fly Intercity 'one off' charter flights? By this it's probably best if I give an example, like what I flew today.

I checked on Vatspy, and saw that Cardiff was manned, so quickly planned an IFR flight to my home Airport Blackpool, in a DHC6. This would have been great to do it in the Dash 8, as a special charter flight, so it logs the hours via Intercity. Could use your membership number as ident, in my case ICX1110 (callsign Intercity 1110).

Like I said, just a thought  :)

It's something we may be able to consider in future, but it would require a significant rebuild of our back end systems so it's not something we can implement in the short term, especially since we're focused on getting ACARS2 out this month.

As it stands, charters have to be booked in advance by management as there's no way to log a flight that isn't in the systems before you fly. Perhaps we'll implement a self-booking charter system one day, although that may have to wait until ACARS3 or later.

PS: There is a twice daily scheduled flight between Cardiff and Edinburgh using the Jetstream 41 (I'm sure you've already spotted this). Cardiff isn't really big enough to support daily operation of larger aircraft to any of our other bases (most commercial passenger flights from Cardiff are seasonal holidaymaker routes with a few notable exceptions such as Aer Lingus Regional ATR72 to Dublin). Cardiff always seems to play second fiddle to nearby Bristol.

Didn't think it would be as straight forward as it appears!
