Title: OFF and ON Block Times: ACARS vs SimBrief
Post by: Ron Kurz on Feb 23, 2016 07:56
I've become a bit unsure about the SimBrief-generated flight-plans when it comes to keeping to schedules.

Quite a few times now I've flown spot on block times according to the briefings emulated by Simbrief, only to find out in my log, that ACARS seems to calculate it differently - both ways - sometimes  too long or too short - even when following the published SIDs or STARs. (Especially in and around LCY it seems very difficult to keep up the ACARS time schedule)

Are there other options to generate a flight-plan, that coincides with the ACARS published route schedules? Are there official Intercity company routes - also taking into account of heavy head- or tail winds...?

I notice quite a few pilots using PFPX....

Thx for any intel (being Swiss, we like to be on time  ;D )

London City (EGLC/LCY) needs to be completely rescheduled because they recently updated all the SIDs and STARs making them much longer. I think in reality ATC often give shortcuts (Direct To). Right now it means many flights will arrive late unless you grant yourself a shortcut, sorry :-[

I could just add 15 minutes to all EGLC flights, but it would push most duties beyond the airport's closing time, so I don't think I can avoid a complete reschedule

I thought so - as far as LCY is concerned. I'll send the boys from approach a box of good wine - that might get me one or the other shortcut... ::)

But I'm also really interested to hear what 'other' kind of  flight planners you and/or other pilots successfully use aside from Simbrief ...

Cheers,
Ron

Just flown into LCY, got a slight shortcut of direct to JACKO but I was already pretty much in a straight line towards it!
Seems a bit of a stretch the new STARs

All of my planners are listed in http://viaintercity.com/forums/general-discussion/flight-planning-and-routing-resources/ (http://viaintercity.com/forums/general-discussion/flight-planning-and-routing-resources/) but they're just simple route databases. Otherwise it's Simbrief or PFPX.
