Hi All

I was looking to get my first flight done today, London City to Newquay. Only the code for Newquay on the route map does not exist in my FSX or Pooley's, it's quoted as EGHQ. I know Newquay is the Civvy name for St Mawgan (EGDG). Which one should it be?

Cheers

Hello Keith, welcome aboard!

RAF St Mawgan officially ceased to exist in December 2008 and the aerodrome has been in full civilian ownership and control ever since then, so it has been EGHQ for several years. However, the FSX database is now 7 years old, back then it was still under RAF control as EGDG and that's how it appears in the sim unless you've got scenery addons.

For simulation purposes the codes are interchangeable, you should use whichever one is in the software or website you are using; for METARs, ACARS, FMS and charts you will need EGHQ, for FSX's "Create a Flight" feature you will need to use EGDG. Your Pooley's guide must be 5+ years old to list it under the old code?

Thanks for the info Chris..  I didn't want to just go ahead and get it wrong !!

And yes, my Pooleys is 2008 !! (Does me for Simming  ;) )

I shall now get started with my first flight.

Cheers

That's alright, for simulation purposes I am using 1:500,000 UK VFR sectionals from 2010 :) Shows how long it's been since I did any flying, but it's recent enough to have Doncaster's Class D CTA on it so it does me, and now all the temporary Olympics airspace restrictions have gone it's fairly accurate again!
