Hello Everyone,

I have written a new blog post about my experience flying the Q400 over the new Orbx Open LC for Europe.  ;)

That was a nice read Bill, thanks for that.

I have fs2crew for the Q400 and it's a great piece of software but for some reason I ALWAYS get stuck requesting Flap 0 set IAS 185, climb checklist to the line.  It can get quite hectic trying to get FS2CREW to react whilst the tower controller on Vatsim wants you to switch frequency's etc hehe.

I'm really interested in the ORBX stuff, it's actually the night lighting that caught my eye more than anything else as landing at night in FSX with default scenery is very bland.

Dean,

Thanks for reading!!!

Yes, Fs2Crew can be a pain at times.  I have found that you have to say certain phrases correctly such as "To the line" or "Below the line", but
not ie. "Take off checklist, to the line".  (This is just a quick example).   I have yet to get FS2Crew to switch to props 900..

Anyway, the best lighting is with FTX Global!  I love flying at night too!!  But  that is the place to start!  Expensive but worth it.
If you have any Orbx regions, make sure you have hybrid mode, use orbx trees, and use vector roads, checked off in FTX central.
Also, make sure you download the latest updates for FTX Global, and your Orbx regions.  The updates can be found via the Orbx release forum.

I've got a cheat sheet I'll have upload for you guys that lists all the phrases and checks.

Good read by the way Bill, I've been considering OpenLC for a while. Do you have Vector too?

Bill Ant (1076)

Hello Chris,

Thanks for reading!  :D

Open LC is really worth the money and then some!!!  As I mentioned on the blog,
scenery repetition appears to be drastically reduced.  From what I can see, instead of just
one texture for a mountain, the mountain is now covered in a plethora of textures.
At least this is how I percieve the difference.

I do not have Vector.  So all images on the blog are without Vector.
Each image is FTX Global and Open LC.

At somepoint, probably should get Vector though.  ;)

Im really tempted by the ORBX stuff but I'm worried I will start getting OOM errors.  I would have liked to give DX10 a go but the DX10 fixer has been removed from sale.  I hope someone else come up with a solution at some point as I always hear nothing but good things about DX10

Bill Ant (1076)

Dean,

If you are flying the Q400, I would not worry so much about OOM errors.  There are some easy ways to monitor VAS too.
You can download a lot of the Orbx stuff for free.  I highly recommend FTX Global is anything else.   FTX Global alone is not
going to give you OOM errors.  Try the FTX Global Iceland demo (Free!)

If you research it, there are ways to download a lot of the DX10 patches for free.  Still very unhappy that DX10 was taken
off of the market!

Forgive my ignorance but how come it was removed from sale?

Dean Farley (1176)

The author never made a public announcement about the reason but some people close to him on Avsim said it was because he couldn't handle the help requests.  If your are semi computer literate the DX10 fixer is pretty easy to use but for people who struggle to even edit the FSX.CFG I would imagine it looks like rocket science hehe.  Apparently he was getting a lot of hassle from people demanding money back because they had seen no FPS increase, when that's not really what DX10 is for.

Ah that makes sense. Perhaps he could have offered a time limited demo and only offered support to paid customers to filter out those who weren't tech savvy enough.

I think that's how Fibre Accelerator is sold, because they say they can't guarantee results you get to try it before you buy so you can't complain.

That is not what I would call a good excuse!!   :o

If you sell an FSX related product, you should realize that many of the people are going to be tough to deal with!
(Look at how people treat developers on their forums.  Brutal!)

Just grow a thick skin or increase the price of the product!

There was Matt Davies youtube video which clearly showed how to install the product.
Also, it was only stated a  "hundred times" that DX10 was not about generating extra fps.
It was for OOM errors and visuals.

Sorry, I disagree with the reasons for taking DX10 Fixer off the market,
and feel for people who were left out.

B.
