Title: ACARS over Network with Simconnect
Post by: Sergio De Ceglie on Apr 30, 2014 15:28
Is it possible to run the ACARS over a network with Simconnect rather than WideFS? The only reason I ask is that all my other software (Flight Planners, ActiveSky Next, etc) running on my laptop over the network connect to FSX with Simconnect. If it's not possible or difficult to implement then fair enough and I'll look into WideFS.

Regards,
Serge

ACARS is dependent on FS UIPC (so you have to use WideFS if you want to use it remotely). Unfortunately to make ACARS Simconnect compatible would require almost completely rewriting the code. We decided to use FS UIPC because it works across multiple platforms (FS9, FSX and Xplane via XUIPC).

I've no experience of WideFS myself but the first version of ACARS was tested with it and worked fine.

Hi

I believe there is a free version of WideFS, it should work no issue with WideFS as its a FSUIPC compatible program and WideFS Is written by Peter Dowson too.

I may look at a SimConnect option once the Majestic Dash 8 release a SDK! But for now well be sticking with FSUIPC
